BILLABONG
A billabong is a term for a small, often permanent, body of fresh water, formed when a river changes course and leaves behind a cut-off bend. Billabong comes from the Wiradjuri word ‘Bilabang’, which translates to ‘ Lake’.
The section ‘bila’ relates to ‘river’, whereas the ‘bang’ refers to ‘continuing in time and space’.
Paintings are like ‘billabongs’ where moments and experiences absorbed from life, can collide and eventually find a stillness, a point of balance. We have always been drawn to water for moments of reflection, observation of dancing light and movement, restorative powers, and simple joy and wonder.
