Ted May began his exhibiting career with Gallery A in Sydney 1964 after graduating from East Sydney Technical College (now the National Art School). Since then, he has had over 30 solo exhibitions. He has been a finalist in major Australian awards, including the Wynne, Dobell, Sulman prizes.

May is represented in private, university and public collections in Australia including the National Gallery of Victoria, Parliament house, Canberra, Heide MoMA, Melbourne and Art Gallery Ballarat

Of his new exhibition May says “Mention Olmec, and people are perplexed, but say Aztec they immediately respond. The Olmecs existed from 1500 BC to 400BCE, long before the Aztecs 1325 BCE– 1521BCE. The Olmec sculptured Giant Heads out of Basalt.
